Welcome to my blog - it's here that I share some of my most recent work - be sure to check back often!! Kathleen Chapman Photography specializes in child and family photography in the North Country NY counties of Franklin and St.Lawrence in locations such as St. Regis Falls, Brushton, Malone, Massena and Potsdam. I offer studio and on location sessions designed to meet your creative vision!!
Mini sessions are great when you only need a few pictures of your family or growing little (or not so little) one. This sweet girl arrived in a beautiful pale pink dress and I couldn't believe how much she had grown since her Christmas mini session this past November. Sitting on a blanket just wasn't her style so after a couple sitting shots I just let her have fun!! She ran down the path in our field, I picked some flowers for her, we chased each other around my wildflower garden and she ended up having so much fun she didn't want the session to be over - a definite win for this photographer LOL! I just love each and every one of this beautiful, energetic little girl's mini gallery!! I included a bonus 6th picture because the last one of her running away from me at the end of the session was too precious to leave out!!
This wildflower mini session is a perfect example of the variety of pictures possible in a quick 15-20 minute 5 picture mini session!! I'm currently booking wildflower mini sessions until the end of the month. 20 minutes | 5 digital images | $75. Contact me with questions or to book your session today!!

I’m so enjoying and loving my wildflower garden sessions this summer! With the flowers in full bloom it's such a beautiful and colorful location for family, senior, couple or individual sessions. I had such a fun time with this beautiful mother and daughter last Sunday on a perfect August evening. Piper at seven was the perfect age for this session and so beautiful, cooperative and silly!! Kat graduated with my oldest son so it was fun to see her years later with so much love for her precious daughter. We started the session with them walking on the path in our field then I captured a beautiful series with Piper loving on Mom – so precious!! After some pictures on a blanket we moved into the field with the sunflowers as a backdrop and then finished the session with some individual portraits. I love capturing the joy of little people running in the path so full of energy and life - what made these pictures so special was the joyous smile on Mom’s face as she watched her daughter from a distance!! Below are some of my favorites from this session (it was so hard to choose)!!

I photographed this family in my studio in January when their youngest was only a few weeks old – Wow was I surprised how much she had grown when they got out of the car for their wildflower garden mini session 7 months later!!! It never ceases to amaze me how much a little one can change during their first year. One of my favorite things about being a photographer is being witness and documenting these astounding changes along the way. We had the perfect evening to capture some beautiful pictures of these sweet sisters so we started with the girls on a blanket and then I photographed each of them separately. Big sister will be starting preschool in a few weeks and was very proud to have turned 4 and had fun running in the path in the field behind the wildflowers! Then it was little sisters turn - I sat her in a tiny chair and I could have photographed her contagious, big smile all day long! I just love the pictures of her looking lovingly to the side where Mom was just out of view. We wrapped up the session with a couple of quick, beautiful summer family portraits.
I can’t wait to work with this sweet little family again in the future. I know I always say that – but I really mean it – repeat clients are the best!!

I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful new mother and her precious 5 week old baby girl in both my wildflower garden and studio this past weekend. Hard to believe this Momma had a baby just 5 short weeks ago - amazing!! One of my favorite things to capture is the love between mothers and their new babies so photographing this mother and daughter with my wildflowers as the background was something I was really looking forward to and so special. This precious little girl was dressed in a beautiful crochet and tulle dress lovingly made by her Gima Lawrence - so adorable!! We started with some pictures on a patchwork quilt then I had Mom take a little stroll down the path in the field because we all know babies love movement. After some beautiful pictures on a bench with the sunflowers in the background we headed up to my studio and as the light began to fade.
Little Rowan was asleep when we first got in the studio so I took some portraits of this little sleeping angel in a cozy basket with greenery and flowers (which luckily matched her beautiful dress). She woke up as Mom changed her into a simple white onesie for some cute, relaxed pictures on my white bed setup. What started out as wide eyed pictures ended with a sleepy little one tired out from her first official modeling session.
I love watching my little clients grow and look forward to working with this sweet little one and her family again in the future!!
My wildflowers should be in bloom until the first hard frost so it's not too late to schedule an end of summer or early fall session. Message me on FB or send me an email at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to discuss booking a session at this beautiful location!

Just when I thought the session in my wildflower garden was going to be rained out last Wednesday - the rain magically let up and stopped for just enough time for me to capture some beautiful pictures of this sweet, loving family. With my gear ready to go on a moment’s notice we quickly headed down the path to my garden as soon as we felt the rain letting up – hoping and praying we wouldn’t get poured on at any second. I quickly laid out a blanket (on the wet grass) for some family portraits. Unsure how long we had before the rain started again I quickly took some walking and standing shots in the path in our field. Next, we headed out into the field to a spot where I was hoping to get a distant view of the sunflowers in my garden behind my subjects – this ended up being one of my favorite pictures from the session. We finished with some special pictures of sweet Annie with her Dad and then with her Mom. I tried to convince her to let me take some individual pictures of her with her pretty pink umbrella - maybe next time LOL!!
My wildflower garden has been quite a challenge this year – lack of rain, slugs, Japanese Beetles and some black (bud eating) bugs I can’t identify, have all made it pretty time consuming to assure a beautiful spot for my wildflower garden sessions. As I looked through the pictures after this session I suddenly realized that all my hours lovingly (and sometimes begrudgingly) caring for the garden were well worth it – I just love capturing beautiful moments for families in such an inviting, lush and colorful location!!
I want to thank the Soper family for being such good sports waiting out the rain, sitting on a wet blanket and walking through wet grass – all with beautiful, loving smiles on their faces. If you’re like me - I don’t think you’d ever guess it was pouring rain just before - and right after these beautiful pictures were taken – talk about luck!!
